Alloy 42
1.3917 / UNS K94100
A binary nickel-iron alloy containing 42% nickel. It has a low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) over the temperature range 20-300°C. Due to this stable CTE it is widely used as tooling for the production of carbon-fibre composites for aerospace and autosport applications. It is used for glass sealing applications in electronic components and vacuum devices, for thermostat rods and in thermostatic bimetallic strip.
